Not much going on around here!

Hi everydog, kitty, hammie, bear and hooman. It's me, Poppy! This has been a pretty uneventful week around here. For US, that's a GOOD thing!! No fights, no vet visits or any bad stuff happening. We like it that way!
We have been kind of sad, this week since Baby Love and Rufus went to the bridge, but the one bright spot, in the week, was when Asta NY told us that Sadie Sue had found a home. We were very happy about that! We were all very worried since she was scheduled to be euthanized on Friday, but some wonderful person came along at the last minute and rescued her. Sadie Sue, we hope you have a really wonderful life from now on!!!!
The picture, above is somedog's hind legs. Our mom's camera has a delay after you press the button to take a picture and it gives us a chance to run away before the picture snaps. We seem to get quite a lot of these out-takes!

Mom was doing a photo shoot of me and Patches got her tail in one of my pictures. Mom can't wait until her next Aire-cut so she can get rid of that squirrel tail. When she was groomed, right before she came here, they didn't do her tail. We don't know whether she wouldn't let them or if they just ran out of time since Mom and Aunt Wendy got there before they were finished. Anyway, it looks pretty silly, but they will fix it next time.

I am still on a d-i-e-t. As you can see from my backside, I'm still a little porky. Mom thinks I have lost a little bit of weight, but it's hard to tell. It's pretty interesting around here with two doggies on diets and one who needs to eat everything in sight! We've been eating a lot of green beans and our treats have been cut in half. Oh, we still get just as many, but each one is a smaller size. Penny and I think that stinks!

Princess Patches has decided that ALL of our toys belong in one of the bedrooms. Last night, Mom had to remove 9 toys from the bed! Also, she has learned how to steal cherry tomatoes right off the vine. She carries each one around for a while and plays with it and then she finally eats it. What a doofus! She even smashed one on the carpet before she ate it!
Well, everyone, that's about it for today. I TOLD you there wasn't much going on! See you all next time!
Aire-hugs,
Poppy, Penny & Patches

Wheely Wednesday!

Hi everydog, kitty, hammie, bear and hooman! It's me, PorkChop! Yesterday, I got to have a rare adventure outside in the daylight! All the real doggies were busy so our mom took me out to check on the tomato plants.
These cherry tomatoes are doing great! Dad has already eaten a whole bunch of them. They look like they are small enough for ME to eat, but I guess I better not smoosh any red tomato juice on my beautimous snooter. I don't think Mom would like that!

This bucket thingy for growing tomatoes looks like a good idea. They get watered from the top and every once in a while, Dad gives them an extra shot of Miracle Gro. Mom is waiting to get enough green ones to have fried green tomatoes. It won't be long now, Mom!

It's kind of starting to look like a tomato jungle, over here! Growing them this way sure makes it easier to pick them off the vine. Last year, we grew them in the ground and we lost a lot that were too close to the house and our pawrents couldn't reach them. This year, all they have to do is turn the buckets around to reach them from all sides.

I had to go check this one too. It is one that the little neighbor girl gave to our mom for Mother's Day. Since we didn't have room for any more buckets, we planted it in a ginormous flower pot. It seems to be doing well too. I see some blossoms on here that will turn into tomatoes! Dad had to tie it to the deck rail because it was growing so tall that it was falling over.

Uh oh! Here comes Poppy to sniff my butt. I guess maybe my great outdoor adventure will have to end soon. I don't want Poppy slobber all over my fur!

Here's a picture of Patches with one of her favorite toys. As you can see, she's taken over the big bed. She likes to lay up there and look down on Poppy and Penny when they are in their beds.

She thinks she's hot stuff laying up there like the supreme ruler of Airedale Heaven! I even saw all three of the girls playing together, this morning. I'm hoping that means no more fights or 'spensive vet bills for our pawrents! Princess Patches seems to be figuring out that play time doesn't have turn into an all out war.
Well, everyone, I need to go back to my china cabinet so Mom can do some needle felting before she goes to that work place. She's making wheelies for Apache, Yalo, Tuddy and Willow! I say the more wheelies...the better! Maybe, one day, we wheelies can rule the world!
See you all next Wheely Wednesday!
Aire-hugs,

Patches has been here 4 weeks and Poppy's in trouble!

Hi everybody! It's me, Patches! I have been here at Airedale Heaven for four weeks now and boy, have I learned a lot! I guess the first thing I learned was that it's okay for me to go out in the backyard without a leash. Woohoo! Freedom! I have checked out every inch of the yard and I'm making it my mission to catch one of those evil squirrels or chipmunks. Poppy and Penny keep telling me that it can't be done, but they aren't as fast as I am.
One of the really big things I've learned is how to eat from a fork. Yes, us doggies have our own forks. It's something about Mom and Dad liking to keep their fingers. Anyhoo, when I first came here, they would give me a treat on a fork and I would try to swallow the fork. I have finally figured out that: A.) the fork is not eatable, and B.) each and every treat I get will not be the LAST! There's always more where that one came from. Maybe it's because I am starting to put on some more weight and I don't feel like I'm absolutely starving to death anymore. Believe me, we get LOTS of treats. Of course, mine are always twice the size of Penny and Poppy's. Somehow, I don't think that will go on forever!

I am also learning how to play with toys and the other doggies. I know you've heard about the fights we got into, last week. Well, this week has been much better. Mom and Dad are watching us just to make sure we don't start any trouble. Okay...so I don't start any trouble! I just want to be the first one out the door and the first one to greet Mom when she comes home from work. I know Poppy is the alpha, but I am just still learning how to play. I will get it right one of these days. When I first came here, I had no interest in toys, but now I LOVE the stuffies! Everyday, I make a pile of them in the middle of the big bed and Mom has to remove them before it's time to go to bed. Heeheehee!

This is Poppy's guilty face. She got in big trouble, today! Some of you may remember that she is a "shopper". She likes to take stuff that doesn't belong to her. Well, since she hasn't been feeling so great, lately, her "shopping" trips have pretty much stopped. That is...until today! Mom and Dad were in the kitchen and all of a sudden, Penny and I went running into the living room. Mom jumped up to make sure none of us was causing trouble and she caught Poppy sitting in the middle of the floor with the bag of pipe cleaners that our mom uses to make wire armatures for her felted critters. Poppy had chewed several pieces off the plastic wrapper and slobbered all over a bunch of the pipe cleaners. Mom couldn't even get mad because she was so glad Poppy is getting back to her old "self". I'm sure glad it wasn't Penny or me that did it!

I have discovered the toy pile in the corner of the living room! Yesterday, I played with the Wubba that Scruffy, Lacie and BabyStan sent to Captain High Pockets. I was SHOCKED when I heard it squeak! It was sooooo fun! Of course, that made Poppy and Penny want it, but I wouldn't let them have it! I hid it under one of the pillows on the big bed and Mom found it last night. Heeheehee! It was nice and slobbery too!

So...let's see...after 4 weeks, I guess I have learned enough to fit in pretty well with Poppy and Penny! I have to check out this "shopping" thing that Poppy does though...I think that might be fun! For some strange reason, Penny never does it! Mom says that Pockets, their very first Aire-girl, was the queen of shoppers! That gives me a goal to reach for...as soon as I learn how to "shop"! I'll start working on it!
Aire-hugs,
Patches (and Poppy & Penny too)

Wheely Wednesday!

Hi everybody! It's me, Petey! I'm reporting today from my home in the china cabinet. My buddy Knut the polar bear, who lives in the bowl next to me, is telling me a secret. Ok, it's not really a secret...he says Poppy got her bandage off this morning. She's doing much better, but you can tell she isn't 100% better yet. It is a good sign, though, that she has started humping her toys again. That's always a sign that she is getting back to normal!

She's spending less time in her bed and more time begging for treats. She's also running to come in from outside, now, instead of just walking slowly.

I've been busy watching the Bluebirds. The mama and papa have a new batch of eggies in their new house. Yesterday, they hung around the house all day so our pawrents think maybe the eggies were hatching. I guess we will know pretty soon if they start carrying the meal wormies into the nest. In the mean time, the 3 little piggy babies are coming to eat wormies from the bowl. They eat by themselves until their mom or dad shows up. Then, they open their mouths and act like they can't feed themselves. What lazy birdies! They have also been taking baths in their water bowl. They VOLUNTARILY take baths! None of us doggies would do THAT!

Poppy is still playing with the crab that Pedro sent us. He doesn't squeak anymore because Poppy, Penny & Patches loved him to death. That doesn't stop Poppy from carrying him and throwing him around though. Patches has tried to take him away from Poppy a few times, but Mom makes her get away from her. She isn't taking any chances on anymore doggie fights until Poppy is all better. It's a good thing us wheelies don't fight! We just stand around in the china cabinet, looking cute until the lights all go off at night...then we start wheeling all over the place! We always have to keep our guard up, though, just in case one of those real doggies decides to make a trip to the kitchen.
See you all next Wheely Wednesday!
Aire-hugs,
Petey the wheelie (and Poppy, Penny & Patches too)

Poppy's v-e-t visit and Penny's storm shirt

Hi everydog, kitty, hammie, bear and hooman! It's me, Poppy! Everyone is asking how I'm doing, so I thought I would just show you. Yesterday, when Mom got home from that work place, she took me to the v-e-t. A nice man came out to the Aire-mobile and carried me in and then he humiliated me in the worse way possible...he stuck that awful thermometer up my butt. As you all know, that is not a fun thing! In a minute, I will tell you about what prompted my visit to the v-e-t, but first, I want to tell you what they did to me. They turned me on my side up on a big high table and felt me all over. Then they shaved some of my fur on my leggie and bandaged it all up. See my pretty purple bandage? I have to wear it until Wednesday.
Mom told the vet about my having so much trouble getting up after I have been laying down for a while. She gave me some samples of this Previcox to see if it helps me move without so much pain. She couldn't figure out why I have arf-ritis when my chart said I am only 3 years old. Mom set her straight and told her that I will be 8 on October 10. They had my records all wrong!

Now, for the reason of my visit to the vet. Yesterday morning, Patches was trying to play bitey-face with me, but I wasn't feeling so good, so I took it as an attack. I fought with her and then Penny joined in too. We had a 3-way dog fight going on until Dad stopped us with this Attitude Adjustment Stick! I've never heard our mom yell so loud! Normally, Penny and I know what that stick means just by Mom or Dad showing it to us, but this time, we ignored it, so we each got a little whack with it. After the fight, I wouldn't put all my weight on my right front paw and there was a little spot of blood on it. After a few hours of my limping around and licking my paw, Dad called Mom at work and told her that she would have to take me to the vet. He thought my leggie was broken, but by the time Mom got home, I was walking on it. She decided to take me anyway since I haven't been feeling so hot lately.

My leggie isn't broken, but I do have a deep wound on the back of that same leggie. The vet said it's shaped just like a tooth. Hmmmm...I wonder why! It's deep into the muscle so I am on antibiotics for 10 days. That was one 'spensive dog fight! Dr. Hardee told Mom that it isn't unusual for doggies to fight when a new one comes into the household. He says we have to establish our "pecking order". Penny already knows that I am the alpha, but Patches has to learn that too! I am already feeling a little better, this morning, but Mom and Dad are making sure Patches stays away from me until I feel completely better.

Mom can't figure out why it took us until 3 weeks after Patches' arrival to start fighting, but she thinks it's because Patches is getting stronger and spunkier now. I think I might have convinced her that I'm the boss around here, but then, why was I the only one who got hurt? Well, anyway, my bandage makes me look like a tough doggie so maybe nodog will mess with me anymore!

All the medicine I have to take is making me very thirsty. You can see my butt sticking out from my feeding station in the dog feeding room as I fill my tank up with water.
We had some nasty storms, last week. Mom has been reading about storm shirts on some of the husky's blogs so she decided to try it out on Penny the Thunder Chicken. It works!!!! Mom put one of Dad's old t-shirts on her and she didn't try to go to the basement or hide behind any furniture. She just laid on the floor and acted like it wasn't even thundering! It was a miracle! We can't figure out why or how it works, but it does! Sorry there is no picture of her wearing the shirt, but as you all know, she's also a camera chicken!
Well, I'm off to get my antibiotics as soon as Mom hides the pill in some meat. Mmmmm...meat! It's a good thing I'm back to eating again! See you all next time!
Aire-hugs,
Poppy (& Patches and Penny the thunder chicken)

Patches' second great adventure.

Hi everydog, kitty, hammie and hooman! It's me, Patches! As some of you may know, we had a new roof put on our house. Well, on Wednesday, when the workers got here, Mom and Dad warned them to always make sure the gates to the backyard fence are closed. Well, it went very well for most of the day. After Mom came home from that place she calls "work", we ate our dinner and then made our usual after dinner trip outside. Just as Dad opened the back door for us to charge through, Mom saw, out the window, that one of the gates was open. She yelled at Dad, but it was too late! Poppy and Penny went to the right, but I went to the left and saw the open gate. I was OUT before anyone could catch me. I stopped to sniff the neighbor, across the street and then ran like a maniac through the subdivision. Mom was hot on my trail, but it was so hot outside, that she didn't make it very far. Dad was telling her that I would come back, but Mom was freaking out! She was yelling for Dad to get the car keys, but he didn't hear her. She had to go all the way to the back yard and into the house because the garage door was closed.
As she ran through the house to get the keys, the phone rang. For some strange reason, she grabbed it and it was a neighbor down the street. She asked Mom if one of her dogs was out and she told her that she had me. She knew who to call when she saw a loose Airedale! Mom and Dad finally jumped into the Aire-mobile and went to her house. She had me by the collar, but as Dad got out to get me, I slipped out of the collar and took off again. She didn't realize that you have to grab the right part of a Martingale collar for it to tighten up. I headed back toward my house with about 5 or 6 people yelling at me. As Mom and Dad pulled up in front of our house, I was standing in front of my own gate, but Mom had closed it on her way out so Poppy and Penny didn't decide to join me on my adventure. When Dad started coming toward me, I ran to the other neighbor's house, but I finally turned around and went back to the gate. This time, Dad got it open and I ran in! I was home safe, but Mom was still freaking out! I don't know what her big problem was...I just wanted to sniff out all my new neighbors! The roofers felt really bad about leaving the gate open, but that didn't help anything! After my second great adventure, Mom and Dad walked all the way through the house to check both gates before opening the door again!

Poppy is feeling slightly better, today, but I think she's still going to go to the v-e-t tomorrow. She didn't eat her breakfast or dinner, yesterday and didn't want breakfast this morning. She IS up walking around more and she's wagging her tail this morning.

A few days ago, Poppy came into the house with blood all over the side of her face and Mom freaked out! She does that a lot where one of us doggies are concerned. She cleaned the blood off Poppy's face and couldn't figure out how it happened. She saw two little punctures and thought "snake bite". She kept going back to look at it again and decided that it wasn't a snake bite, but maybe Poppy scraped her face on the fence. We got the bleeding stopped and Mom "doctored" her and decided to watch her very closely. The area never swelled up and Poppy was fine for about 2 days before she started feeling puney. Of course, all this happened in the evening after the vet's office was closed. Now, Mom is thinking maybe she should have taken her to the emergency vet and paid through the nose.
The roof is finally all done so hopefully, I won't be escaping anymore and if Poppy was upset about all the pounding, she should should settle down now. The only one who hasn't freaked Mom out this week, is Penny. She barked a lot when the roofers were here, but she hasn't escaped and she isn't sick or anything. It's a good thing ONE of us is normal!
See you all next time!
Aire-hugs,
Patches (and Poppy & Penny too!)

Wheelie Wednesday!

Hi everybody! It's me, PorkChop! Thanks for coming by to see us for Wheely Wednesday.
Our mom bought a new tool to torture the real dogs! It's a Furminator. She has decided not to use it on me because my fur doesn't grow back. Penny, however, is another story. Mom used it on her and got enough hair to build another dog! Patches and Poppy have a hard time sitting still long enough to be furminated, but that crazy Penny actually LIKES it! What a weirdo doggo!

Poppy has been spending a lot of time in her bed lately. Ever since she came home from the new groomer, her Arf-ritis has been acting up a lot. She has a hard time getting up and she doesn't feel like playing too much. Mom thinks they gave her the wrong dog when she went to get her from the groomer's. She just isn't the same happy doggie that Mom dropped off. When they put her up on the grooming table, she fights it and flails her leggies all over the place. We think that's why she's hurting. Mom and Dad put her on some hip and joint care stuff, but it doesn't seem to be doing any good, so far. Don't tell Poppy, but I heard our pawrents talking about taking her to the v-e-t if she isn't back to normal soon. Penny and Patches think Poppy is just still getting used to having a new Aire-sister around that is sharing in the treats and attention. Patches has been here for 2 1/2 weeks and we would think Poppy would be used to her by now. Poppy is nice to her, but she doen't play with her like Penny does. Mom says Poppy might as well get over it, because Patches is staying!

This is Princess Patches having a little snooze in one of her favorite places...on the nice cool floor right in front of the refrigerator. Mom says her collar is a "Red Hat Lady" collar. It's red and purple. This collar was, originally, bought for Captain High Pockets and he ate a piece out of it! Dad took another collar and fixed it so it works like a Martingale collar for Patches. We don't want her slipping out of it again. Mom says she will get a new one when Patches gains her weight back. She's put on about 3 or 4 pounds since she's been here, but she still has a long way to go. She has finally quit roaming the house, at night, so all my wheelie buddies and I have resumed our nightly excursions when everydog else is sleeping!

My bear buddies in the curio cabinets have been joining us wheelies on our great adventures. We don't dare come out during the day because somedog is always around. Poppy is still sucking on the cow dog and Patches is giving her the evil eye!

Today, we are getting a new roof put on our house and we sure hope it doesn't run the Bluebirds off! There will be lots of pounding so we are expecting lots of barking! We have found out that there are three baby birdies instead of the two that our pawrents saw leave the nest. One must have flown before the other two. It's slightly bigger and has some blue developing on it's tail feathers. All 3 of the babies are showing up on the feeding table several times a day. Mason, Mena and Mitch take turns feeding them. One of them will actually get right down in the bowl of meal wormies and eat, but if one of the adults is around, the baby opens his mouth and waits for them to shove the wormies in. See all those pine needles on the floor? Well, Mena has built another nest and she dropped some of the pine needles on her way in. We think she has already laid more eggies because every time some other bird gets close to the nest, Mason runs them off.
Well, everybody, I'm already back in the china cabinet where it's safe and we are just waiting for the pounding to start. I plan on spending my day snickering at the real doggies as they bark their heads off and get in lots of trouble. See you all next Wheely Wednesday!
Aire-hugs,
PorkChop

Tagged by Gaia the beautiful Aire-pup!

Hello to all our furry and not-so-furry friends! I, Patches was tagged by Gaia the beautimous Aire-girl to answer the following questions:

1. What were you doing 10 years ago? I guess I hadn't decided to come down from heaven yet, since I'm only 5 years old.

2. What are 5 things on your to-do list today? Let's see...I have to check the basement and make sure it's safe for Dad to go down there. Rid the yard of evil squirrels. Check the neighbor dogs to make sure everydog is still in his or her own yard. Knaw on my marrow bone, in my crate, for a while. Take plenty of naps so I will be ready to terrorize Mom when she comes home from work.

3. Which snacks do you enjoy? Oh, this one is hard...I enjoy ALL of them! So far, I've had Bark Bars, marrow bone stuffed with peanut butter, Canine Cuts, Jerky Treats and melon! They are all pawsome!

4. What would you do if you became a billionaire? I would buy Mom and Dad a ginormous place to live so they could rescue all the doggies that are in shelters or abusive situations. I would also make sure we all had an endless supply of treats forever.

5. What are three of your bad habits? Counter surfing would have to top the list. I wake Mom up in the middle of the night for no good reason. Some times I bark just to hear my own voice.

6. Where are 5 places you have lived? Well, I lived with my breeder in Alpharetta, Georgia, then I moved in with someone who didn't feed me enough and now I live in Airedale Heaven with Poppy and Penny. I guess I've only lived 3 places and I'm staying here furever!

7. What are 5 jobs you have? Letting everyone know when someone is at the front door. Being the "town clown". Making sure Mom gets up to go to that work place. Searching the floor to make sure no crumbs are left there. Patroling the back yard to make sure there are no other living critters out there, except Penny and Poppy, of course.

I'm not going to tag anyone because I think everydog else has already been tagged. If you haven't and want to play, consider yourself tagged!

I just LOVE this pawsome duckie that Pedro sent us. We have developed a very close, personal relationship. I carry him all over the living room and sometimes even into the kitchen. I also like to shake the "you know what" out of him. He doesn't seem to mind, though! He just sits there and asks for more.

On Saturday, Mom and Dad brought home this pawsome cow dog for all of us. As usual, Poppy grabbed it right away so Penny and I had to chase her so we could taste it too. We barely got our lips on it, when Poppy told us to back off. I guess she thinks it is only hers!

This is what the cow dog looked like before it got all full of Aire-slobber. Isn't she cute? So far, she's still got her eyes! She's actually big enough for Poppy to hump so I'm sure she will just LOVE Miss Cow Dog to death soon.

Remember our Bluebird puppies? Well, this is one of the babies being fed by his mom. He sits on the deck rail and opens his mouth really wide so his mama can stick meal worms into it. The babies are big enough to fly to the table where the wormies are, but they still make their mom and dad feed them. They are over two weeks old now, so we think they are just lazy.

Sometimes, one of the babies stays in a tree and makes the mama and daddy deliver the wormies to it. We think one is a female and the other is a male, but we aren't sure yet. They haven't developed any coloring except a little bit on their tail feathers. They also have a teenage brother that is helping to feed them. Mom and Dad think he's from a previous litter. Since the mama and daddy are named Mena and Mason, Dad named the teenager Mitch. He hasn't named the two babies yet. This baby is kind of hard to see in the tree. He's just about in the center of the picture. If you click on it to biggyfy it, we think you can see him or her. Mena has already built a nest in the new nesting box, but we have been having some trouble from some House Sparrows. One of them keeps going into the nest when Mason and Mena aren't around. We have read that they can kill Bluebirds so Mom and Dad are trying to figure out a way to get rid of the little brown pests.
Well, everyone, I'm going to check out the basement, now to make sure it's safe for Dad to go down there and do his woodworking.
Aire-hugs,
Patches (and Penny & Poppy too)

International Package Exchange!

Hi everybody! It's me, Patches. Today was a very exciting day for us. The FedEx man brought us a package from our pal, Pedro! It's for the International Package Exchange that Mr. T-Bone Beasley and Chef had the brilliant idea for. Mom took a picture of the package before any of us saw it.
Once we realized what she had, Poppy and I had a meeting to decide who would get to open it. As it turns out, we were taking too long so Mom decided to open it for us. Woohoo! There was lots of really cool stuff inside.

Poppy grabbed a fleece crab toy that squeaks and she hasn't quit squeaking it YET! Too bad Dad was trying to take a nap when Mom opened the box for us. For some strange reason, Mom thought she would have some control over the contents of the box. Wrong, Mom! We don't know WHAT gave her that idea!

Poppy's been holding onto the fleece crab so tight that Mom can't even take the tags off of it.

I decided to check out this cool duck! He even floats so if we ever get a pool, he can go in it with us. He is also a good tug toy!

Here's Poppy STILL squeaking the crab. Hey, Poppy, can I have a turn? Well, I guess I'll have to wait until she goes to sleep. Maybe I'll just go play with the Star Fish thingy. I hear it floats too, so if we ever get that pool, we'll be all set!

Here's the really nice letter that Pedro sent along with all the cool goodies! Thank you SOOOOO much, Pedro and Pedro's mom! Until today, I hadn't really shown any interest in toys, but I sure do like that duckie! Uh oh! Now, Penny's playing with the duck. I guess I'll go get the lobster treats and eat them all by myself!

These are the eatable lobsters. There were 3 of them in the box! Notice how there are only two of them and one is sort of um...broken? Well, as soon as Mom put the box on the floor for us, I took off with one and ate it all up. The second one kind of hit the wooden floor and I tried to grab it too, but Mom said I only get one at a time. Pedro and his mom really know how to shop!!! Sorry there aren't any pictures of Penny with our new toys. She took off to hide under a bed as soon as she heard the camera!
I hope everyone enjoyed seeing all the goodies we got from Pedro! We're headed over to see Chef now and let him know our pictures are posted. We're also going over to see Pedro and thank him dogsonally!
Aire-hugs,
Patches (and Poppy & Penny too)!!!!
